Getting back here

It just occurred to that the last time I logged on to my own blog was July 2015.. That's a good nine months ago!!! How time flies!

Looking back to the past nine months, I do realise that nothing much has happened to me.. I am still pretty absorbed with my full time work as an accountant and my part time work as a wife.. Since moving into my own place in May last year, I found that the number of "relax"hours I have in my hands had dwindled.. I no longer have my usual Sunday at home spa hour, I stopped painting my nails, my cuticles are in a mess. I even cut my hair so short (from half way down my back to chin length) so that I can spend less time dealing with it.

Prior to moving out, my mom handles most of the household chores (like 90%, I only need to tidy my own room). Now I have to handle them on my own (with help from hubs of course). All the dusting, cleaning, tidying, washing, ironing, etc.. I think I am morphing into an auntie *horror*

Maybe its because I get to less home cooked food nowadays, I tend to fall sick rather easily as well. The bout of flu last month took me two weeks to recover.. The case of food poisoning two Sundays ago that took me to the A&E and I was put on drip. I think I need to eat healthier and have some sort of exercise routine to build my health back!

Products for Hot Weather

Living in Singapore, a country where it is summer all year round I am very used to the hot weather. But recently, the weather has turned from hot to extremely hot to the point where I can literally feel my makeup melting off my face. To combat this, I have switched out a few items to help my makeup can last longer.

The first product I switched out is the toner. I was cleaning out my bathroom cabinet when I found it the Philosophy Total Matteness hiding in a corner. I received it last year for my birthday and have used it once or twice before totally forgotting about it. I don’t recall why I didn’t like it previously, but have I found that it really helps to keep my face matte without drying out my skin. It supposedly helps with pore size as well, but I hasn't been using it that long to notice a difference.

Then is the sunblock I was using. I was rotating between a few sunblocks and I realised that my skin remains matte longer whenever I use this particular one from Innisfree. The Innisfree No Sebum Sunblock does not feel greasy and is lightweight despite being cream texture. I really like how light it feels on the skin unlike some sunblock that can feel stifling. This sunblock also blends easily with no streaks or white cast. I have previously raved about it here. I was using a sample but I liked it so much that I have already purchased a full bottle.

Lastly, the Benefit Porefessional is back in rotation. Previously, I was trying out some other primers and totally forgot about it. I don't think it specifically helps to combat the oils but I came to realise that without this primer, my nose area will become oily quite fast.

These three products are what I have been using daily for the past month and I think I will be using them until this hot season is over or until I find something even better.

Thanks for reading!

Bye!

Everyday Makeup #2

My everyday makeup routine has changed since I have last updated, but I have switched up a few products here and there.

I try switch up my eyeshadows, blush and lippies so that I get to use every single one in my stash at least once a year (quite impossible, but at least I try to make an effort to do so) and these are the ones I find myself gravitating towards recently.

  • Visee Duo Rich Eyes in OR-1
  • Maquillage True Liquid Moisture UV
  • Maquillage Perfect Multi Base BB SPF 30 PA++
  • Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Soft Sand
  • Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush in Rose
  • Kate Lash Maximizer
  • Heroine Make Volume & Curl Mascara
  • Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard
  • Maquillage Concealer Stick in #2
  • Etude House Play 101 Pencil in #50
  • Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker in Nudist
As much as I was loving the Addiction Tinted Skin Protector, I have to wean myself from it and save it only for special days. Mine is only contains 15ml and it is very hard to get hold of this brand's product outside Japan. *sad face* In place I have been using these two bases from Maquillage, which are good but not up to par as compared to the Addiction one.

For the past year or so, I find myself favouring natural looking skin and topping up with concealer(s) to cover up those marks, redness, etc. I also don't really care if there are still some flaws showing, as long as the major ones are covered up.

Instead of buying new foundations to fit this "natural skin look", I just mix my makeup bases and liquid foundation (the ratio is usually 1:1). If I want a "luminous natural skin look", then I will add a touch of liquid highlighter in the mix.

You can find my previous everyday makeup post here.

Thanks for reading! Bye!

Brown Eyeliners

I go through phases with my makeup, I used to only use black eyeliners, be it gel or pencil (I never use liquid), it was always black. But as I evolved, I now only use brown eyeliners on a daily basis, saving black for special days like wedding dinners, company dinners, etc. when I want to my makeup to be different from my usual.

Here's a post dedicated to my favourite brown eyeliners. There are three of them and they are listed from the darkest to the lightest shade of brown.

  • Etude House Play 101 Pencil in #50
  • Integrate High Impact Gel Eyeliner BR610
  • Visee Color Impact Gel Liner BR301

Integrate High Impact Gel Eyeliner BR610
Pros
  • smooth and easy to draw
  • easily blended before it set
  • does not smudge once set
  • pigmented
  • can be used to draw either thick or thin lines easily
  • nice packaging
Cons
  • tend to disappear on my lower lash line
  • not available locally

Etude House Play 101 Pencil in #50
Pros
  • inexpensive
  • does not smudge or move once set
  • lasts on my lower lids
  • pigmented
  • can be used to draw either thick or thin lines easily
Cons
  • formula is on the drier side, so tend to tug on lash line
  • harder than the other 2 to blend even before setting
Visee Color Impact Gel Liner BR301
Pros
  • pigmented
  • smooth and easy to draw
  • easily blended before it set
  • does not smudge or move once set
Cons
  • the lead is the skinniest of the three so,
    • it tends to break easily
    • needs to draw more times if I want a thicker line
  • not available locally

Skincare routine - evenings

Continuing from my previous skin care routine post (you can read it here), this is on my skin care routine for the evenings.

My evening routine is somewhat similar to my day routine but with an extra cleansing step to remove makeup and there are more items I am rotating between.

So, let's cut the chase and begin!

First cleanse - to remove makeup

Eye
- Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover (favourite drugstore)

Face
- Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil

I like using this Bisfesta eye makeup remover as it easily removes all my eye makeup including my waterproof mascara. No tugging or rubbing needed. And since this is from the drugstore, the price is also affordable. In addition, I tend to stock up when there is discount going on. The other eye makeup remover I enjoy using is from YSL, but it is about three times more expensive.

I have been using the Fancl cleansing oil on and off for over the past few years. It is a simple, no frills and effective makeup remover. It does not leave my skin feeling greasy after washing off. Since Fancl has pulled out of Singapore, I guess I have to look for other alternatives.

Second Cleanse (no fixed/favourite cleanser)
- Haba Lobo Gokujyin

This is a cleanser that I use in the shower. It leaves my skin feeling clean but not dried out. So far I have been liking the products I have tried from Haba Lobo.

Toner (depending on skin condition)
REN Clarimatte Clarifying Toner or
- Vichy Refreshing Toner or
- d Program Acne Care Lotion

The REN toner is a clarifying toner that unclogs pores and sloughs off dead skin, and it makes my skin tingle just a bit. I will follow up with the Vichy toner to rehydrate my skin. On spotty days, I will revert back to my trusty d Prodram Acne Care Lotion.

Serum
- Indeed Labs hydraluron (first layer)
- Odacite Jojoba - Lavender Serum Concentrate (1 drop, mixed with moisturiser)
- Odacite Camelina - Chamomile Serum Concentrate (1 drop, mixed with moisturiser)

Moisturise
- REN Clearcalm 3 Replenishing Gel Cream

These serums and moisturiser combination has been pretty good to my skin. I wake up with hydrated, bouncy skin (on most days).

The hydraluron serum provides hydration, the jojoba - lavender serum helps to prevent clogged pores, camelina - chamomile serum to soothe sensitive skin and finish off with the REN moisturiser that combats breakouts.

Lips
- Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant

Bought it from the duty free at only SGD10. It is quite good at keeping my lips hydrated but the taste is not very nice but still bearable.

Extra - Facial Oils
- Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil
- Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil
- Clarins Skin Repair Beauty

If I am feeling lazy or tired, I will just use a toner and a face oil.

The Pai rosehip oil has been sort of neglected as it did not help much with my skin. My favourite oils have to be from Clarins. The lotus one helps with breakouts and the other one helps with everything - breakouts, skin sensitivity, hydration, etc.. Its my go to treatment for fussy skin days.

That's all for today!

Thanks for reading!! Bye~

Skin care routine - day

As compared to a couple of years back, the products I have used have changed quite a lot. Pretty much all have changed aside from d Program toner and moisturiser (not available locally but I always stock up when I am overseas).

My routine itself has not changed much. Cleanse, tone, serum, moisturise and sunscreen. I will skip sunscreen if I am not heading out.

Here's the list of items that is currently in my day time arsenal.

Cleanse (no fixed/favourite cleanser)
- Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser

Tone
- d Program Balance Care Lotion I

Serum
- Shiseido Power Infusing Concentrate
- Odacite Hyperpigmentation Serum Concentrate (1 drop, mixed with moisturiser)
- Odacite Clogged Pores Serum Concentrate (1 drop, mixed with moisturiser)
- Pure Heals Volcanic Pore Eraser Ampoule Essence
(not used on a daily basis - saw no visible results, still using it so that it will not go to waste)

      Moisturise
      - REN Keep Young and Beautiful Firm and Lift Eye Cream
      - d Program Balance Care Emulsion I

      Sunscreen

        - IPSA Super Sun Block SPF 50 PA+++
          - Innisfree Eco No Sebum Sunblock SPF 35 PA+++

don't have a favourite cleanser at the moment, so I am just grabbing whatever I have in my stash. Quite liking this one from Ole Henriksen, it smells good and the foam is nice and thick.
As for the serums from Odacite, it can either be used alone or mixed together with your moisturiser, which has been something I have been doing. One drop of the clogged pores, one drop of the hyperpigmentation with one pump of my moisturiser. Loving this combination at the moment.
IPSA sunscreen has always been a favourite of mine but recently the Innisfree one has taken over that spot! Although the Innisfree sunscreen is a cream formula, it is very lightweight and easy to spread. It also keeps my shine away for a longer time. Best of all, it is so much more affordable and accessible as compared to IPSA!

          Thanks for reading!
          Bye~!

Everyday Makeup #1

My everyday makeup routine is pretty much the same for the past year or so, only that the products I uses vary..

Currently, these are the "few" products I have been reaching for before stepping out the door.

  • Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Soft Sand
  • Kate Lash Maximizer
  • Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard
  • Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Pink Opal
  • Etude House Play 101 Pencil in #50
  • Maquillage Concealer Stick in #2
  • Lunasol Full Glamour Liquid Lips in Clear Coral Pink
  • Addiction Tinted Skin Protector SPF 50+ PA+++
  • Heroine Make Volume & Curl Mascara
  • Bourjois Blush 95 Rose De Jaspe
  • Nars Express Yourself Eyes
There's a mix of old favourites and new loves in this makeup cocktail...

The Kate Mascara Base has been a really old favourite of mine, I cannot recall how many years and how tubes I have gone through! I have been layering this under my mascara to help hold the curl and add volume to my sparse lashes.

Another old favourite of mine is the Lunasol lip gloss... I have this tube for so long that I think it should already been thrown away! But, I love it so freaking much! It gives my lips a slight wash of colour and makes my lips looks fuller.

Heroine Make mascaras are also long time favourite of mine, I have tried both the volume & curl and long & curl version and I love both equally. They are waterproof which are fantastic for warm, humid climates like Singapore.

My new favourites are the Etude House Play 101 Pencil and the Bobbi Brown Face Powder. The former is just so wonderful! No fading or smudging through out the day, relative easy to draw (it does tug on the lids a bit, just a bit), it sets fast and it is cheap! The latter keeps my face matte but not flat. There is still somewhat a bit of glow to my skin.. And no matter how much powder I cake on, it never looked cakey.

The Addiction Tinted Skin Protector is love upon first application... I cannot describe in words how I feel about it. It provides coverage yet you can still see your skin and the finish is satiny..  And it doesn't oxidise. As Addiction is not available in Singapore, I have been rationing my usage as this is a mini tube of only 15ml!

Thanks for reading! Bye~~!

Davines NOUNOU Nourishing Repair Mask

I was running low of my John Frieda Frizz-Ease Miraculous Recovery Intensive Masque, which I liked but I didn’t like it enough to repurchase.  So when I came across this Nounou Nourishing Repair Mask on Cult Beauty, I was very curious and excited!

Description: “Davines NOUNOU Nourishing Repair Mask is an SOS gem for dry, broken, brittle hair, especially when caused by chemical treatments. Davines is a family founded brand with distinctive style and spirit. By combining high-grade natural ingredients with first-rate scientific rigour the Bollati family has expanded its Parma research lab into a multi-national hair care business. An inspiring range of original and authentic products so good hair obsessives Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Aniston are fans.”

First, this mask smells funky.. Luckily it doesn’t linger on for long after washing the mask out.

Second, I don’t find this mask nourishing at all. The first two times after I used it, my hair was knotty! Now that’s a problem that I typically don’t encounter.

So when I tried it again, I coated my hair liberally with the mask, spent a few extra seconds massaging, working the mask into the strands, then tying back my hair and left it on for a few minutes more before rinsing it off. After all that extra work, it did nothing special.

Not impressed at all as it works no better than the usual conditioners in my stash.

Maybe I'm back...?

It has been almost one year since my last post on this blog!! *gasps* Times really flies!

I doubt anyone will read this maybe except my own self, but I would still like to have this phase in my life "documented" down some where..

Since the last time I've blogged, I have changed my job twice, the first one lasting a mere six months before I handed in my resignation letter. Then about seven weeks after that (which is in the late September 2014), I started on my current job and today I am celebrating my four months and two days anniversary!

Year 2014 has quite a lot of ups and downs...

I travelled a lot in 2014.. Went to Perth, Australia in February, Bangkok, Thailand in May (part work related, part leisure) and finally to Hong Kong in October.

And this time to Hong Kong I really had a great time! A fantastic time gorging down the uber delicious food in Hong Kong! Not to mention that this time I also had a great time at skincare/makeup shopping (not so much on the fashion department as always).

After getting married for almost a year, my hubs and I finally collected our keys to our new home!! Yay~!

Looking back, in 2014 I sort of have a job hunting angel shining down on me. I have gotten not one but two job offers in February, but I ended up picking one that I wasn't happy with (read below). And in my second round of job hunt in July/August, I managed to find another position quite fast.

I felt super loved by friends who gifted with lots of cute gifts during our Christmas gift exchange.

2014 wasn't all a bed of roses for me.. I met with some not so nice people at my new-ex job (but at the same job, I have really made a few good friends!). Although they are not the main reason I left, but they have some contribution to making my work life miserable.

I also had to deal with the problem of depleting bank funds. I have stopped working in mid April 2013, paid for my share of wedding expenses and honeymoon. My mission was to fulfill as my wants with as little money as possible. II self imposed quite a few bans on myself, which, luckily was lifted late last year.

Although I am late, here I hope that 2015 will be a happier year for me!

Review: Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask

I bought this cleanser on a whim, together with the Advanced Night Repair so that I can chalk up enough value to get the GWP, to my greatest surprise, I ended up really liking it a lot.

As stated on the tube, it is for all skin types, ideal for normal/combination skin. It can be used two ways, one, as a foaming cleanser, two, as a 3 minute purifying mask. It contains 150ml of product.

I like how this cleanser smells, a light perfume scent, but some may dislike products with fragrance but I don't mind at all, as long as it does not smell offensive or overpowering.

It creates a dense foam with a little water, so you can skip using a foaming net unless you really want to bubble this cleanser up and it is also good when paired with my Clarisonic Mia. This cleanser washes off very easily, without leaving any residue behind and also, it does not strip my skin dry. My skin feels super soft, clean and hydrated after rinsing off all the foam.

On the other hand, I do not think it works well as a purifying mask at all. I have only tried it as a mask once, and I will not try it again. It feels soapy on the skin and left my skin super dry.

This is one of the best new cleansers I have tried in the recent years, ever since my holy grail IPSA Cleansing Smooth Foam, and it may even replace IPSA's cleanser as my holy grail cleanser.

Thanks all for reading! Bye!
